Holistic Food

Posted on Mar 17th, 2007 by Janaki : Mother of Oneness and Equality Janaki
Nutrition professionals classify food according the their nutritional content.

Yoga classifies food according to its benefit in the physical, mental and spiritual levels.
so they classify food according to its vibrations, not based on its nutritional information.

It's just like looking at a person and judging him by the way you feel when you meet him. If he is a criminal, you will immediately know and if he's a saint you can feel that he is because you feel drawn to him. On the other hand, another way whereby people judge a man is by what his job is or the kind of car he drives.

Normal Nutritional Classification is based on the 5 food groups, foods containing proteins, carbs etc.

Here are the food classifications:

1.Sattvik foods are foods that benefits the mind, body and spirit
Ex. vegetarian foods.

2.Rajasik foods are foods that is good for the body  but may or may not be good for the mind.& the spirit.
Ex. Colas, Milk Chocolate etc.

3.Tamasik foods are foods that is not good for the body, mind and spirit
Ex. Onion, garlic, mushrooms etc.

Anyway, holistic health is based on the health on the 3 levels, body, mind and spirit health.
It also considers the effect of what we eat vs its effects on our environment . We also consider our moral stand with regards to inflicting harm to other beings. We want to make sure that we survive without inflicting so much pain to other beings. To be able to decide what is good for us, we should define the word “good:” I would define Good as something we do that benefits all or most areas of our life. I'd say the greatest good for all.
